Liberty of London. Haward Studio The Haward studio, first based in Kensington and later in Amyand Park Gardens in Twickenham provided Liberty with almost all its designs from the Edwardian period when Liberty first opened. Owned by the Haward family the studio fulfilled this role until the business finally came to an end in the late eighties. When Roger Woods worked there in the seventies, it was owned by Sidney Haward. The design director of Liberty, Bernard Nevill, took particular interest in Roger's work and later used him for his own collections. Bernard was a master of English Ecclecticism and was a major inspiration for Roger's later work. When Roger worked as a freelance designer, he continued to sell to Liberty through his agent Alan Thomas. In the Liberty archive some of his designs are attributed to Alan, but with the help of Anna Buruma, the Archivist at Liberty we are hoping the designs will now be correctly assigned. The following designs were bought by Cantoni in the seventies from Roger during his freelance period. Cantoni and Etro would always ask to see Roger's designs first.
